Blessings abound. After sharing an update about Jan’s health at the first service last Sunday, I realized I need to tell everyone about the blessings in and around Bethlehem. While Jan and I are still waiting for her biopsy, we feel blessed and supported. While this looms large for me, I also see the other sorrows and health concerns in our community and the ways that we support each other. The Holy Spirit is at work in us, getting us ready for tomorrow’s challenges, whatever they may be.
It continues to amaze me that five of our number have felt moved to prepare themselves for the work of Lay Pastoral Associates (LPA). All this, and we are blessed to have Andrew, who is an LPA, back among us. Jerry, Jim, Johnna and Gary are in their second year of preparation and Kellie begins this year. This Sunday we look forward to hearing the Good News from Gary. I have heard his sermon and know we are in for a treat.
There is energy building around a ministry of visitation. This would be members visiting members who are ill or homebound. The Men's Bible Study is just starting to take-off. The group meets Tuesday evenings at 7pm to talk about the gospel for the coming Sunday. There is also energy building to resume Adult Forums. We’ll still keep the First Sunday Special, but we’ll have even more reason to visit between services every other Sunday of the month. We’ll probably start on Reformation Sunday with a video/discussion series on – wait for it – the Reformation.
Speaking of the First Sunday Special, this past week the free will offering at the between service social was $157, all of which will go towards the heating bill.
The Holy Spirit is at work among us, building us up to be the Body of Christ.
